Moving from London to Reading West was no wrench at all. Different worlds and we love Reading West! But the shocking difference in the commitment shown by the two different councils to recycling is worlds apart. Southwark Council collected glass, paper, green waste; any kind of plastic (or at least that’s what we thought…).
In Reading our bottles have to queue out of the door, in all their naked shame, until one of us gives in and goes to the bottle bank!
It’s not just Southwark that’s comparing favourably – our neighbours recently moved to South Oxford, with a seemingly Reading post code and they are very pleased by the recycling services they now receive.
For a Council that seeks to differentiate itself as better, futuristic even, it’s a really wretched record…. wake up and recycle, Reading!
