Wow. What can we say – our first time here and we are just wondering quite how we missed this in our fabulous-festivals-reachable-from-west-reading reporting.
A 39-minute beautiful drive and here we are. A world away from the built up busy locality and
brilliantly over-grown riverside of our area, this festival lies the green rolling hillside of Laverstoke Park Farm, Overton (Insert link to map).
Don’t let the countryside location and cleanliness fool you. Carfest is massive. It rightl
attracts up to 60,000 people over the weekend and the surrounding fields are huge car parks
from where you walk up and down hills to the main entrance. Easily found (contact them for
wheelchair access advice as it’s clear the organisers make a real effort to include all), once
you enter you walk through a great fun fair with a range of rides suitable for the small players
to the big ones, including a frankly crazyily sized ride featured here. [insert picture]
Then it’s food time (after rather than before) and again, Carfest doesn’t disappoint. Our
recommendations are the Katsu curry, and our daughter and photographer, Lucia Ngomo,
gave a 4/5 for the burger. This is an amazingly high score for her, and justifies the slightly
high price tag…. Another stall that won her heart was the milk-shake. Again, though it
comes at a cost, these shakes were truly delicious.
Music wise there is something for everyone. The line up for the 2023 weekend can be found
here – Texas a true classic, honoured to be able to see them after so long. But this festival
isn’t just about a great musical line up. We were delighted to discover 7 festivals, including
the carfest; star fest; adventure fest food fest and sparfest. Yes. Spar fest.
This festival really is an imaginative, innovative, family friendly haven. All for charity, hats of
to Chris Evans. Whole-heartedly recommended, we will be back.
